From an Idea to Something Real

The difficult part is deciding which ideas deserve your attention and following through long enough to find out whether they work.

I have more ideas than I could realistically bring to life. For a long time, I saw that as a problem. I would get excited about something, start exploring it and eventually find myself thinking about the next idea.

Over time, I’ve started to understand that having ideas isn’t the difficult part. The difficult part is deciding which ones deserve your attention and following through long enough to find out whether they work.

I’ve become increasingly interested in the entire process of creating something. Not just designing how it looks, but understanding the problem, developing the concept, building the product, creating an identity around it and eventually introducing it to people.

Each part influences the others. A good product needs a clear purpose. A good identity needs something meaningful to represent. And good marketing should communicate the value that already exists.

This is one of the reasons ANN works as a studio rather than a single brand. It allows me to explore ideas across different industries while developing a consistent way of approaching them.

Some projects will become real products. Others might remain experiments. I don’t necessarily see that as failure. Sometimes the value is in what you learn during the process. What matters is being intentional about what you choose to pursue and honest about whether the result actually improves something.
